Betty Zane Days Offers Family Fun

Kicking off tomorrow, Tuesday, July 30 and running through Saturday, Aug. 3, the annual Martins Ferry Betty Zane Days offers fun for the entire family. Sponsored by the Martins Ferry Volunteer Fire Department, the festival is named for Revolutionary War heroine Betty Zane and held in Martins Ferry City Park along Zane Highway.

Events begin daily at 5 p.m. and include carnival rides provided by Cromer Amusements, games and food vendors.

Tuesday’s activities begin with an opening prayer and music by the MSM band. The event continues Wednesday with Tim Ullom as the musical entertainment. Wednesday also features the Betty Zane Days 5K Run & Walk, benefitting the Martins Ferry City Schools National Honor Society. It begins at City Park.

Eli Lambi will be Thursday’s musical entertainment. Friday’s entertainment will feature DJ Daner. Also on Friday, a bean bag toss tournament is slated with registration between 5-6 p.m. There is a cost per team to participate.

New this year is a craft and vendor fair at 10 a.m. Saturday at City Park. Saturday’s events also include parade at noon, followed by the firefighter water battle on Fourth Street near Unified Bank. The water battle involves teams of firefighters from various departments dressed in gear using pressurized water from fire hoses to push an old barrel on a suspended line. On Saturday, the amusement rides will open for an hour at 1 p.m. and then reopen again at 5 p.m. Saturday night’s musical entertainment will be Twice As Nice. The annual Police vs. Fire Mush Ball game is at 9 p.m. at the park’s baseball field.
