Piedmont Lake is one of three recreational campgrounds with cabin rentals in Belmont County.

Hiking -Take a hike on trails at Barkcamp State Park, Dysart Woods, Piedmont Lake, Barnesville Memorial Park, Zion Retreat and RV Park, Raven Rocks, and St. Clairsville Memorial Park’s Newlin Falls Trail. Zion has a 1.84-mile trail around their pretty lake. Barkcamp offers four trails, ranging in difficulty level. A paved trail goes through Pioneer Village. Biking -The popularity of cycling in the United States continues to grow. During the COVID-19 Pandemic Quarantine, bicycle sales skyrocketed, much like they did during the energy crisis of the early 1970s.

Biking is an eco-friendly, social-distancing approved way to exercise, travel and sightsee. Unlike many forms of recreation, bike riding is accessible to all ages. Whether it’s a leisurely paved bikeway or a challenging dirt trail, cycling enthusiasts will find a great ride in Belmont County. Barkcamp State Park and Dysart Woods, and Zion Retreat and RV Park offer mulched trails. The National Road Bike Trail offers a pretty and paved ride. Swimming – Cool off at one of our lakes or pools. Belmont Lake at Barkcamp State Park offers a 700-foot free beach. Swimming is allowed only in designated areas.

While some of the county’s pools have not reopened this year, Allen Pool in St. Clairsville Memorial Park, Martins Ferry Park Pool, and Powhatan Point Park Pool are open for swimmers. Allen pool includes a corkscrew slide, diving board, concession stand, and plenty of grass for sunbathing and relaxation. The Martins Ferry Park Pool offers pool passes and pool party rental, as well as daily rates. The Powhatan Pool is a full size 150,000-gallon pool, offering a 10′ deep end with two diving boards. They also have a brand new 3,000 square foot, 7 feature splash pad for kids of all ages!

Fishing/Boating – Whether you spend a day out on the lake or cast a line from the dock, the fishing is fantastic in Belmont County!

The 117-acre Belmont Lake at Barkcamp State Park allows both motorized and non-motorized boats. Seasonal boat tie-ups are available and there is a launch ramp. Boat rentals are available at the check-in station. Kayak rental is also available here.

Piedmont Lake Marina and Campground is home to black crappie, bluegill, bullheads, channel catfish, flathead catfish, largemouth bass, muskellunge, redear sunfish, saugeye, smallmouth bass, white bass, white crappie, and yellow perch. The state record muskie was caught here. There are two public boat launch ramps. Explore the 2,270 acres of water by kayak, fishing, or pontoon boat. Kayaks can be rented for up to four hours or an entire day, while fishing and pontoon boats can be rented for a few hours, a day or two or even a week.

Zion Retreat and RV Park’s 27-acre lake offers paid fishing and boat, paddle board, and kayak rental. They also have several small fishing ponds. You can also pay to fish the many ponds at Dickinson Cattle Co. in Barnesville.

Barnesville Memorial Park’s Rotary Park Lake features a fishing pier, boat dock and kayak launch. You can fish from the shore there, as well as at Schuler Park in Flushing, Bethesda Park Lake, and the ponds at Egypt Valley Wildlife Area. Golfing – Belmont County has three great golf courses. A bad day on the golf course is always better than a great day at work.

The golf course at Belmont Hills Country Club in St. Clairsville is enhanced by the natural beauty of the pine rich Ohio hillside. The rolling hills beckons players, whether beginners or pros, to “tee it up”.

Horseshoe Bend Golf Course in Armstrong Mills doesn’t require tee times and provides golfing for all skill levels and budgets.

Horseback Riding – Barkcamp State Park offers seven bridle trails over a 22-mile system for riders with their own mounts. They also have an equestrian camp with electric sites, a horse-washing station and mounting ramp. Visit our website for more info about horse trails.

Camping – From tents to luxury cabins and everything in between, Belmont County has many camping options.

Barkcamp State Park offers cabins, full hook-up RV spots, and equestrian camp, and tent camping. The campgrounds offer electric sites, and three handicap accessible sites. An 11-site group camp is also available for organized groups by reservation. Amenities include a shower house, dump station, and pet camping in designated campsites. Piedmont Lake’s campground offers tent camping, full hook-up RV camping, cabin rental, showers, and laundry facility. The vacation cabin rental gives you full access to nature with the comforts of home. Piedmont has six park model cabins. Models 1-4 are standard cabins with two bedrooms.
