All (dad) jokes aside, our fathers and grandfathers have a big impact upon our lives. Show the dad in your life how much you appreciate him with some of these recreation ideas found right here in Belmont County.
Biking, hiking, fishing, bowling and golfing
Go biking with your dad on the National Road Bikeway in St. Clairsville. -Take I-70 Exit 215 and travel east on Rt. 40 to St. Clairsville. Turn left at 2nd light onto N. Marietta St. Turn right at stop sign onto Newell Ave. Turn left at stop sign onto N. Market St. Follow N. Market St. to ballfields.. The National Road Bikeway in St. Clairsville is the only rail trail in Ohio with a tunnel. The northern end of the tunnel features a two-plaza overlook, allowing the user an 80 foot high view of the bike trail at the top level. This tunnel is truly a sight to be seen.
Hike trails at Barkcamp State Park, Barnesville Memorial Park, Dysart Woods, Piedmont Lake., Captina Creek Birding Trail, Newlin Falls Nature Trail, Raven Rocks, and Zion Retreat & RV Park.

Barnesville Memorial Park has a dirt trail that wraps around the 12-acre lake with plenty of challenging hills.
Part of the Buckeye Trail can be hiked at Piedmont Lake.
Dysart Woods offers two trails. The red and blue loop is a 1.7-mile loop trail located near Belmont, Ohio that features a great forest setting and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and trail running.
There are five stops along the Captina Creek Birding Trail that include the marina at Powhatan Point, the Captina mainstream at Alledonia, Raven Rocks, the south fork of Captina Creek at Rainbow’s End and Dysart Woods. See this website for more info or download a brochure here.
Located in the northeast corner of St. Clairsville Memorial Park, Newlin Falls Nature Trail, is a 1 mile long, wide, hilly, mulch-lined trail. Features of the trail include two small waterfalls, a new bridge, and plenty of wildlife.
Raven Rocks is a 0.4 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Beallsville, Ohio that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips.
Zion Retreat & RV Park in Flushing is an 800 + acre retreat and nature center with a 27-acre lake, various small fishing ponds, rustic and luxury cabins, 1.85-mile trail around the lake, stand-up paddle board and kayak rental, swimming area, playground, aqua zip, beach, sand volleyball.
If your dad likes to drown worms, take him to Barkcamp State Park, Barnesville Memorial Park, Epworth Park, Piedmont Lake, Lake Shawn Schuler Park, Bethesda Park Lake, Zion Retreat & RV Park, Powhtan Point Marina, and Egypt Valley Wildlife Area. Take your dad bowling at Chestnut Lanes in Barnesville. Call 740-425-1234 for lane availability. Belmont County also has St. Clair Lanes in St. Clairsville and Park Legion bowling Alley in Martins Ferry. At this time, only Chestnut Lanes is open for bowling.

If your dad is the adventurous type, try Ohio Valley Airsoft, Route 40 Lumberjaxe, Come Shoot Indoors, and The Escape Zone.
Ohio Valley Airsoft, LLC, in Bellaire is run by a local police officer who wants kids and adults alike to have a safe and legal place to enjoy airsoft indoors during all seasons.
Come Shoot Indoors in Martins Ferry offers a temperature controlled, five-lane shooting range, a Virtual Firing Range and Concealed Carry Courses. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, you must make a reservation, wear a mask, have your temperature taken, and sign paperwork.
Route 40 Lumberjaxe is Belmont County's first axe throwing and game venue. Their Father’s Day special this week is ALL DADS and EVERYONE in their PARTY will receive BOGO - Book one hour and get the second hour free. They are open Friday and Saturday from 5-11PM. Come Shoot Indoors
The Escape Zone in Bellaire offers a real life escape room experience. Locked in a room with up to 9 other participants, you must use the elements of the room to escape. You only have 60 minutes to complete your task of searching for clues and solving puzzles. Teamwork is essential for your success!
