Quilt shop fabric preparing to be turned into magic for others

Local Businesses Matter: From Past to Present Quilt Shop

Started by mother and daughter Jeana and Joyce Paglialunga 10 years ago, From Past to Present Quilt Shop in St. Clairsville sprung from Jeana’s passion for photography and photo restoration. She had a studio above the 139 W. Main St. location of the quilt shop, and when customers began requesting photo quilts, she and her mother opened the quilt shop. Eventually, the photo restoration business was phased out and Joyce became the full-time operator of From Past to Present. Jeana helps her mother and maintains the shop’s Facebook page.

Patty said that during the pandemic she has made a sold over 1,200 face masks, with the proceeds going to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.

Joyce also makes the banners for St. Clairsville City Schools that hang throughout downtown.

“We try to give back to the community as much as possible,” she said.

In addition to three rooms of quilting fabric such as seasonal, novelty, sports teams, cuddle, flannel, batiks, and 108-inch fabric, the shop carries quilting, sewing and embroidery supplies, quilting books, ric rac, notions, batting, needles, thread, etc.

“For a small shop, I think we have a good selection of fabric,” Joyce said.

They also offer quilting classes. There will be one in January for experienced quilters that will be held virtually if needed. Visit their Facebook Page for more information.

For handmade Christmas gifts like soup bowl holders, table toppers, kitchen scarves, face masks, and other seasonal decorations, look no further than From Past to Present.

They also do custom embroidery upon request and sell some programs for embroidery machines. They also carry pre-cut quilting kits.

If you are looking for a quilting or embroidery project, the store offers many kits.

Joyce said From Past to Present was one of the first stores in the area to carry a special thread made in Italy, and the Paglialunga’s had the opportunity to tour the plant in Milan. They have also attended Jenny Doan’s Missouri Star Quilt Company conventions.

They will be open this Saturday, Dec. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a special “Shopping Extravaganza” and will have special discounts and offers. Visit their Facebook page for more information.
