Get Ready for Spring Planting at Local Greenhouses and Nurseries

Spring is right around the corner and soon Belmont County greenhouses and nurseries will be opening for the season.

With the first day of spring right around the corner on March 20, now is the time to start planning your landscaping, flower planting, vegetable garden, or just pick up another houseplant. Whether you have an experienced green thumb or you could use a little expert advice, the greenhouses and nurseries in Belmont County have what you need to transform your yard from winter blah to spring beauty.

Burkhart’s Nursery, 59510 Wright Rd., Barnesville, is a family-owned business that sells annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, trees and shrubs. The third-generation business was established in 1950.

Fruits of Life Greenhouses, 60998 Pigeon Point Rd., Barnesville, is another family-owned business that offers a variety of annuals, perennials, houseplants (including succulents and fairy garden plants), landscaping, and vegetable plants. Be sure to check out their koi fish pond.

Holub’s Greenhouse, 65938 Glencoe Road, St. Clairsville, grows all the plants that they sell in their 12 greenhouses. They offer a wide variety of perennials, vegetable, herb, and flowering plants, including hanging baskets and unique containers.

Lendon Floral & Garden, 46540 National Road West, is a family-owned and operated florist shop, but also offers seasonal flowers such as mums and poinsettias. They grow many of the flowers for their arrangements in their gardens that were revamped in 2020.

Ponzani Landscaping, 66741 Warnock Rd., St. Clairsville, offers professional landscaping services including planning and design and lawn care for residential and commercial customers.

Captina Produce Auction, 39050 Captina Highway, Barnesville, is a good way to buy bulk quantities of flowers, vegetable plants, and even outdoor décor. Their annual spring consignment auction is scheduled for April 17, 2021.
