Belmont County Casket Co.

Overview

The former Belmont Casket Company in Shadyside was responsible for manufacturing Marilyn Monroe’s casket following her death in 1962. The shell for the casket was stamped out at the Columbus plant and then sent to Belmont County to be assembled and finished. Most caskets were stamped and wholly manufactured in Shadyside alone. The factory closed in the early 1980s, but the structure still stands.
